Problem Identified: In world language classrooms--as in all classrooms--the primary challenge to full participation is students’ self-consciousness that leads them to overlook the role errors have in learning. The stakes are even higher in the world language classroom, since speaking and practicing the language relates directly to gaining usage and, later, proficiency.
Hypothesis: If we use kahoot to present and review material, student performance will increase as measured by Mastery Checks.
Data Collection: Data collected from Kahoots administered between October 19 and December 2, 2016.
Actionable Step: “Kahoot is easy to use, saves your results, and students like it. It also shows percentage of right/wrong answers as students answer each question, which allows teachers to see which questions trip students up (and explore why). To use, sign up for an account (at Kahoot.it) Here’s how to use this tech tool in your classroom tomorrow….”
Overall Findings/Impact: My overall findings are inconclusive. On some learning points students seemed to improve, but we would need to continue over a longer term and with similar quiz questions to see if this improvement were actually legitimate and valid.
