Proportional Relationship Video
7th Grade Math
Ed Oliva & Brandon Johnson

Problem Identified: As we turn up the rigor in our homework (assigning released state test questions), we have noticed a decrease in completion rates, so we want to provide engaging scaffolds to support our learners without reducing the rigor of the tasks.
Hypothesis: If we make a video explaining a series of released state test questions, then students will learn how to do them as measured by a pre and post assessment.
Data Collection: Without the video support, only 35% of students successfully completed Homework No. 10, which was comprised of released proportional relationship state test questions.
Actionable Step: You can make a video of yourself teaching to aid your instruction. Your video will allow your students to watch (and re-watch, and re-watch) as needed to acquire the targeted content.
Overall Findings/Impact: I made the attached video explaining the math involved in each question’s solutions. We will make the video available to students generally, and especially as the state test approaches. We will judge the success of the approach by the successful completion rates of the problem set.
