ShowMe for Screencasting
8th Grade Math
Devin Silva & Ms. O.
Problem Identified: In math, our student’s readiness varies greatly. We need to provide multiple points of access for new topics and find a pace of instruction that is effective for all. Due to algebra, some students will regularly miss mini-lessons. Other students need a resource to refer back to as a unit progresses. We have posted our presentations and lesson materials on the class website, but students need a more guided support.
Hypothesis: If we use Showme to to create screencast mini-lessons for each learning outcome, then students will have a better understanding of what is expected, increasing mastery.
Data Collection:
Actionable Step: In order to enrich your lessons with Showme, you’ll want to grab and iPad and select a small piece of instruction to model for students. You will need a quiet room and about five minutes to set record yourself. After that, upload the Showme and share the link however you please.
Overall Findings/Impact: We would like to improve our success by preparing Showme’s for each learning outcome. Additionally, we have some difficulties with technology at points. Showme really necessitates use of an ipad, which neither of us have access to outside of school. Finally, students’ ability to follow a lesson presented in this way really varied. Still, we are building a useful library that can be passed forward.
