Chord Charts & Song Sheets
6-8th Music
Mike Colonna

Hypothesis: If Chord charts, posters, diagrams and printed examples of CHORD CHARTS and SONG SHEETS are readily available for students playing instruments in Music class, then there will be increased understanding as well as practical ability student to student as measured by clarity, fluency sound quality and tone BY HEARING THEM PLAY THESE MUSICAL EXAMPLES.
Data Collection: WRITTEN CHARTS, 1:1 CONFERENCES AND STUDENT PRACTICE/DEMONSTRATIONS OBSERVED AND RECORDED BY TEACHER
Actionable Step: in order to use a Chord chart, use the NUMBERS and DIAGRAMS provided to correspond with FINGERS needed to be used (students have working/prior knowledge of HOW a chord chart is constructed, WHAT each symbol represents WHY they need to use these, WHY they are helpful and WHAT the end result/OUTCOME will be (“being able to play a specific song/piece of music”).
Overall Findings/Impact: Increased fluency and ability (guitar, keyboard and so on) with a majority of 7th/8th grade students, Steady emerging fluency for 6th grade students “new” to these concepts.
