Problem Identified: We noticed students needed more “at bats” to practice demonstrating mastery of content in a traditional assessment format.
Hypothesis: If we use Quizizz for weekly assessment then student mastery of learning outcomes will increase as measured by improvement from unit pre-assessment to unit test.
Data Collection: We conducted a pre-unit assessment using state test questions for each learning outcome and conducted a post-unit assessment using similar questions.
Actionable Step: Quizizz is an engaging and low-stakes opportunity to help students review and build repetitions with the content.
Overall Findings/Impact: Average student performance improved from 35% on the pre-assessment to 84% on the post-unit assessment. Part of that can be attributed to the Quizizz review, particularly for the unit’s vocabulary learning outcome. Quizizz works best for vocab and quick recall facts. We found that the students were too focused on the competitive aspects to take the necessary time to complete questions that required more analysis. Other formats worked better to review those topics.
