Extension Work: Piktocharts
7th & 8th Grade ELA 2
Heather Garman & Matt Perron

Problem Identified: Higher students were ending assignments early and needed extension work. In addition, we wanted the end product to be less homogenous.
Hypothesis: If students who complete their essays early create a Piktochart to accompany their essay, then students will have an opportunity to engage with media and the end product less homogenous.
Data Collection: As noted by the amount of students who turned in Piktocharts.
Actionable Step: Here’s how to use this tech tool in your classroom tomorrow. Simply have students go to Piktochart.com. Students can log in through Google and the site is self-explanatory. Students can create informational charts on any topic of study.
Overall Findings/Impact: We found Piktocharts to be a successful solution to our problem. Students were excited to create a tech product after writing their essays. The extension allowed for extra curricular student creativity. We found it even motivated other students to complete their work early.
