Khan Academy as a Resource for ENLs
6th Grade Math
Kurt Eulau & Priyanka Katumuluwa

Problem Identified: Our early production ENL students lack access to math curriculum in English.
Hypothesis: If we provide a way for them to use Khan Academy as a resource then they will master more learning outcomes as measured by mastery checks.
Data Collection: mastery check, Khan Academy analytics
Actionable Step: We created step-by-step instructions in spanish to allow our Spanish speaking students to independently locate relevant resources at es.khanacademy.org.

Overall Findings/Impact: Students could successfully find materials given key vocabulary in English without teacher help. However, the initiative overall was not successful because students lack foundational knowledge, such as adding two digit numbers consistently. One student was reluctant to diverge from the whole class concepts and activities to independent remedial work.
