Quizizz in Spanish

7th & 8th Grade Spanish

Ryan Daley

Hypothesis: If Quizizz is used in tandem with exercises that add to student retention of covered material (e.g., student creation of their own Quizizz, worksheets that include Quizizz vocabulary, etc), then students will retain greater amounts of Spanish vocabulary as measured by vocabulary mastery checks.

Data Collection: Quizizz retains test results every time it's used as a classroom tool. Teachers then can download and save information as an excel doc.

Actionable Step: Quizizz will be used to review vocabulary; students will then be tested on vocabulary (verbally and through Edmodo Mastery Checks).

Overall Findings/Impact: Quizizz provides encouragement through use of funny yet encouraging memes. Students work independently yet are able to follow their progress through a "Leaderboard" that shows all players' scores and proportion of correct (measured in green) and incorrect (measured in red) answers. Students often focus on this component instead of on accuracy, which tends to distract them from the real objective. In spite of this, Quizizz has helped students improve their review of vocabulary, and is a fun and exciting way to encourage them to review concepts and terms they otherwise wouldn't.
