Using QR Codes to Access Math Resources

8th Grade Math

Devin Silva & Evelyn O.

Problem Identified: When reviewing in preparation for the state exam, we noticed that students had varying degrees of recall. Some needed additional examples in order to solve problems independently. We wanted a quick way for students to be able to access resources that could aid them.

Hypothesis: If we use QR Codes to link to resources then students will increase independence and self-direction in completing tasks as measured by performance on mastery checks.

Data Collection:

Actionable Step: Identify resources you students may need (instructional videos, glossaries, problem sets) and use a website (such as http://goqr.me/) to generate QR codes that can be copied onto any documents you produce. Students will needs ipads or to be allowed to use their phones (they may need to download a qr reader app.)

Overall Findings/Impact: Students metacognitive abilities vary, so their success at independently identifying when they would need to access a resource was inconsistent. As we did not use the iPad cart frequently, we were left to monitor students using their phones appropriately, which is often a challenge.
