6th Grade ELA 2
Chris Howard & Nora Green

Problem Identified: Newcomer ENL students cannot read available books in English and we do not have sufficient books in their home language. They need more individualized English language instruction than the part time ENL can provide.
Hypothesis: If we use Imagine Learning with entering and emerging ENL students will it increase their ability and competence to communicate in English?
Data Collection: We targeted 3 entering and emerging ENL 6th graders to use Imagine Learning. Our emerging ENL student uses it during intensive has become more aware of English spelling patterns and his ability to write independently has increased substantially. The short stories at his level have increased his confidence in reading English. Our two entering ENL students use it during intensive and sometimes during ELA 2 independent reading time. They have increased their English vocabulary and are more confident is speaking.
Actionable Step: This program requires a paying subscription. but is a way to engage and strengthen ENL students’ English skills.
Overall Findings/Impact: Imagine Learning is a way to engage and strengthen ENL students’ English skills.
