Assessments in Spanish
7th & 8th Grade Spanish
Ryan Daley
Problem Identified: Even though several students indicated that more writing would help, I noticed that many Heritage Learners weren’t able to read or write Spanish, regardless of their spoken language ability.
Hypothesis: If Heritage Learners use Padlet to research and record their text-based writing, their vocabulary will increase as measured from a baseline assessment to a mastery check.
Data Collection:

Actionable Step: I would choose a different platform, so my first step would be searching for something else that meets those needs.
Overall Findings/Impact: Padlet lacks structure for students, and can seem daunting--it’s the equivalent of a blank page for writers--and so it seemed too larger for students to fill in with their ideas. Using another program, like Thinglink, that breaks down written input into more manageable chunks seems like a better starting point. After a few projects of this type, moving into a less structured ThingLink wouldn’t seem as much of a jump.
